The wet pipe system has water in the pipes under pressure, so it would activate immediately upon the detection of heat, posing a risk of water damage if there is no fire. The dry pipe system holds air pressure in the pipes, with water released only when the system is activated, which provides protection against freezing but does not directly address the issue of water damage from accidental sprinkler discharge.
